It’s hard to believe that tomorrow’s Thanksgiving and I’m having to dig up plants that are still flourishing to put the winter pansies in! But the day is mild and yesterday’s rain has softened the ground, so it’s time. The good news is my granddaughter, Layla Rose, is helping me! Layla will soon turn 12; she is quite the social butterfly, so any time I can spend time with her is an absolute joy for me. I’m paying her a little to help me—what kid doesn’t like a little spending money? Layla is the daughter of the Lofts’ owner, my son, so it’s also a good thing for her to have a little personal stake in the property!
It doesn’t take us long to plant five flats of pansies. Layla is a great help; we mix the colors and she quickly catches on to loosening the roots a tad before she puts the plant in the ground, placing them an appropriate distance from each other. They’ll stay small until early spring and then they’ll have a spurt of growth. Such a wonderful day! We even managed to bring donuts and infused water this morning for our guests!
